You’d be forgiven for thinking that Freddie Mercury had been singing about the car maker Zap all along, as only just recently Randall Waldman’s company (which was going to produce the new, high speed Zap electric car) has gone belly-up.
Despite another batch of press releases singing the future virtues of the Zap car plant and the 4000 jobs it would create, it’s now “all over, Rover”. And no, I don’t mean as in Rover automobiles – although they’re finished too, it’s just a figure of speech.
Randall Waldman had promised to build the car plant in Simpson County, with Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear pushing through an executive order allowing the electric cars on all area roads but alas, the plant was never built.
In fact not only have the plans fallen through, Waldman’s manufacturing company has gone bankrupt and he’s being sued by several creditors. Ouchy mama.
Despite Zap’s dreams of mass production being pulled from under their feet, the company still claim to be alive and kicking. Though anyone who’s been involved with the electric car scene over the last few years has heard this all before from Zap and have grown wary of the company.
Zap has become a giant George Michael, telling us about how many women it’ll conquer, but all you see it doing is going to “Bad Boy Billy’s Leather Club”, avoiding the truth.
It’s time for Zap CEO Steve Schneider to come out of the electric car closet, drop the charades, and show us a real, full speed electric car.
No more smoke & mirrors, no more empty press releases, and please God, no more Low Speed Vehicles.
We’re waiting Steve…
